Rosacea is a common long-term skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in the face. The condition is more common in women than in men, but symptoms can be a lot worse for men. It is also more common in people with lighter skin in comparison to those with darker skin colour, where redness may be harder to see or notice.
The first signs of rosacea include blushing or a red colour across the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. The redness may come and go or remain on your face permanently. You may also feel a slight burning sensation or sting when washing your face with water or cosmetic skincare products.
There is no cure for Rosacea but it can be treated and maintained, so the symptoms are controlled and minimalised. If left untreated, the condition can get a lot worse. Your face may remain red all of the time which can cause tiny broken blood vessels or small bumps to appear on the skin and stay there. Sometimes in more severe cases, these bumps can then become filled with a yellowish pus-like liquid. This is known as pustular rosacea, which can often be misdiagnosed as acne and therefore incorrectly treated.
The root cause of rosacea is still relatively unknown. However, some triggers can definitely make the symptoms worse. Common triggers include alcohol, cheese, caffeine, spicy foods and vigorous exercise.
Inflammation or redness of the skin can be caused by several different factors, including rosacea, as well as eczema, rashes and psoriasis. Skin redness can be a major concern for sufferers, and as redness is often a symptom of something else, it can be difficult to manage. At Revolution Aesthetics, we offer targeted treatment options from both ZO Skin Health and AlumierMD to help calm and manage rosacea-prone skin.
The ZO regimen for inflammation and rosacea contains lactose, milk proteins, glycerin and brassica oleracea italica extract to soothe skin through hydration and minimise the appearance of red, sensitive skin for rosacea sufferers. This ZO regimen also helps to reduce oil production, improve skin texture and tone through gentle exfoliation and protect the skin from anti-oxidants and inflammatories. Similarly, AlumierMD offers a range of products formulated with calming peptides, hinokitiol, and sea whip extract, designed to relieve redness, strengthen the skin barrier, and support long-term skin health
