What Is Lip Filler Migration, & How To Avoid It?

25th April, 2022

lip filler migration

Lip filler migration is one of the few common side effects of aesthetic injectables. It occurs when the dermal filler spreads or migrates to another region separate from the area in which the injection was placed. The name ‘filler migration’ comes from the fact that the filler is migrating away from the area of the injection site.

What Is Baby Botox?

25th April, 2022

baby botox

Baby Botox is a wrinkle reduction treatment where small amounts of Botox are injected into the facial muscles. With all that in mind, it's important to know how to protect yourself against skin damage caused by the sun and how to adjust your skincare regimen to suit the season. In this blog, we'll tell you all you need to know by answering some common questions regarding summer skincare.

How Long Do Thread Lifts Last?

While it might seem like a lucky few get off lightly, the ageing process affects us all. Over time, our skin (particularly in the face and neck) loses its tightness, fullness and elasticity, and fine lines and wrinkles begin to form.

This is because, as we get older, our body produces less collagen, the protein responsible for making our skin look firm, healthy and youthful-looking. To make matters worse, we naturally lose facial fat in the cheeks, mouth, jawline, chin and under-eye areas as we age, which only makes the skin appear older, saggier and tired.

For those who don’t want to (or can’t afford to) commit to such a big operation, a thread lift offers a safe, affordable and non-invasive alternative that still delivers results.

5 ways to transform your skincare routine this spring

22nd March, 2019

spring skincare

Your skin’s needs change with the weather, so your skincare routine should adapt with the seasons too.

As we move from the biting cold of winter, into a warmer and more humid spring, it’s time to review and adapt your skincare routine to keep your skin looking bright and feeling healthy.

Here are our top suggestions for transforming your skincare routine this spring.

Check the SPF - Your skin is at risk of damage from the sun’s UV rays all year around, so spring is a great time to check that your skincare products contain SPF protection. If you’re already using products with SPF, consider increasing the factor as the weather starts to warm up.

Exfoliate - Post-winter your skin may still be feeling a little dry and flaky. To revitalise it this spring, invest in a gentle exfoliator to get rid of dead skin and feel radiate again.

Eye cream - The sensitive skin around our eyes is particularly at risk from the sun’s UV rays, which start to get stronger during the spring months. If you’re not already using an eye cream, spring is a great time to introduce one into your routine to protect the skin around your eyes and keep it bright and free of lines.

Invest in professional skincare products - If you’re not already using professional, scientifically-backed skincare products, then spring is a great time to turn over a new leaf and make the switch. Many high street skincare brands don’t penetrate the top layer of skin, rendering them completely ineffective. By investing a little more money, consulting an expert, and buying professional skincare products suitable for your skin type you can achieve radiant, healthy skin.

Ditch oil-based cleansers - Oil-based cleansers can provide some of the extra moisture that our skin craves during the cold winter months. When the weather starts to warm up in spring the air becomes more humid, which doesn’t mix well with excess oil, so it’s time to switch to a more lightweight cleanser.

What treatments are there for excessive sweating?

20th February, 2019

hyperhidrosis

Whilst it’s perfectly normal to break out in a sweat when your temperature rises, if excessive sweating is beginning to affect your everyday life then it may be time to seek help.

Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, doesn’t always have an obvious trigger. The condition can affect the whole body, or in some cases, specific areas only. Sometimes the onset of the condition can be related to a medical condition or medication, but in other cases there is no known cause.

If you have already tried self-help methods like changing the material of the clothes you wear and wearing loose clothing to no avail, then one of the following treatments could help to alleviate symptoms.

Prescribed antiperspirants - your doctor may be able to prescribe stronger antiperspirants containing aluminium chloride to control sweating.

Medications – there are a couple of medications that can be prescribed to reduce sweating, but they tend to cause other side effects, so they’re not usually a popular option.

Electric current – iontophoresis is a treatment whereby a machine passes a low voltage of electricity through the affected area. It is most effective when excessive sweating occurs in the hands, feet or armpits.

Injections – injections of Botox into the affected areas can reduce sweating by 82–87%. Treatment temporarily blocks the chemical that is responsible for the body’s sweat glands and only affects the area injected. Injections typically provide relief from symptoms for 3 – 12 months.

Surgery – several types of local surgical procedure are available to treat hyperhidrosis. Most surgical treatments for the condition are only available privately and there is no guarantee of success.

At Revolution Aesthetics we provide Botox injections for the treatment of hyperhidrosis. Our treatments are carried out safely in a professional and relaxing environment by medically trained clinicians.

Are eyelash extensions right for me?

29th January, 2019

eyelash extensions

Eyelash extensions are a popular beauty treatment for accentuating the eyes, but they’re not right for everyone.

Waking up every day with beautiful, long, thick lashes is an appealing thought. But before rushing out and getting eyelash extensions it’s important to know the facts and have explored the alternatives.

Eyelash extensions are available in different lengths, styles and textures to help you to achieve the look you desire. Having the extensions applied involves individual fake lashes being stuck to your own eyelashes and should be painless. Applying eyelash extensions for the first time usually takes between 90 mins and 2 hours.

Key information about eyelash extensions

You should avoid mascara and heavy eye makeup – After having eyelash extensions applied it’s best to keep your eye makeup natural. Mascara and other eye makeup can contain oil which will loosen the adhesive and cause your extensions to drop out. Makeup remover that contains oil is also a big no-no for the same reason.

They will still require some maintenance - Whilst eyelash extensions give you eyes that pop without the need for constant application of makeup, they will still require some light maintenance. Daily brushing will keep them looking neat and tidy.

How long do they last? - If you want to keep the look, eyelash extensions require regular filling in which can become costly. Extensions typically last 6 – 8 weeks but will probably need filling in within 3 – 4 weeks.

There is a risk of infection – Although it is a minimal risk, it is possible to pick up eye infections or for eyes to become irritated by the application of eyelash extensions.

Avoid eyelash extensions if:

  • you have thyroid problems
  • you are undergoing chemotherapy.
  • you are allergic to latex
  • you want to wear heavy eye makeup.

Eyelash serum as an alternative to eyelash extensions

If eyelash extensions aren’t a suitable option for you, or you don’t like the idea of having adhesive applied so close to your eyes, then eyelash serum could provide an excellent alternative.

Eyelash serum, sometimes referred to as Bimatoprost, Lumigan or Latisse, is easy to apply yourself at home using the applicator provided.

Within four weeks of using the serum you can expect to achieve thicker, longer and fuller lashes, with results continuing to improve for up to three months.

To find out more about eyelash serum treatment, or to book a free consultation, give our friendly team a call on 0161 327 0969.

Three simple things you can do for better skin right now

12th January, 2019

skin and hair

Try these three quick-fixes to improve the appearance of dull, tired or dry skin.

Achieving radiant, glowing, healthy skin, takes time and commitment to good skincare routines and healthy habits. However, if you slip up, or your skin is going through a rough patch, these three quick-fixes could help you to save your skin’s appearance in a hurry.

Apply ice

If you wake up to inflamed red skin and puffy eyes then you may be able to calm your skin by reaching for the ice cubes. Wrap some ice in a clean cloth or towel and apply to the skin for 10 to 15 minutes to reduce inflammation and puffiness.

Add a drop of oil to your foundation

Applying foundation to red, dry and flaky skin can result in clumpy, patchy make-up. A quick fix to improve the appearance and condition of your skin is to add a drop or two of facial oil to your foundation before applying.

The oil will help to moisturise your skin throughout the day as well as making it easier to apply your foundation and achieve a smooth and flawless finish.

Drink more water

Skin feeling dry and dull? Make sure you’re drinking enough water each day to keep your skin looking plumper, younger and more radiant. Your skin is after all, 64% water, so staying hydrated can keep tightness and dryness at bay. Water also plays an essential part in removing toxins from the body, which can help to keep inflammation at bay and skin looking healthier.

If you’re following a skincare routine, eating well, and still suffering with red, dry or irritated skin then it could be time to switch to a specialist skincare product. At REVOLUTIONAESTHETICS we stock ZO Skin Health products, an advanced brand of skincare products that can be used to treat a range of skin conditions.

To find out more about the ZO Skin Health range, or for information about any of our skin treatments, give our team a call on 0161 327 0969.

How long will my skin treatments last?

4th January, 2019

heart skin

Whilst aesthetic skin treatments can achieve excellent results, they won’t last forever unless they are administered regularly.

One of the commonest questions we get asked is how long our treatments last. Here is a rundown of what each skin treatment entails and how long you can expect it to last for, to help you decide which option is right for you.

Anti-wrinkle injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes and on the forehead. The treatment works by injecting Botox into the skin. The Botox then blocks nerve impulses to relax the muscles and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Anti-wrinkle treatments tend to last 4-6 months. The exact timescale varies from person to person as some people will break down the active ingredient quicker than others.

Dermal fillers

During a filler treatment a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin. Filler plumps up the skin to give it a fuller and younger appearance and help it to retain more water.

Filler injections usually last for around 6-9 months. Like anti-wrinkle injections, the exact timescale will depend on the individual as some people break down the filler quicker than others.

Skin peels

Skin peels remove the top layer of skin to help renew and revitalise skin and treat or reduce the appearance of conditions like acne, sun damage and enlarged pores. Removing the top layer of skin also encourages collagen production to give it a plumper and younger appearance.

How frequently you will require a skin peel to keep benefiting from the results will depend on the skin condition being treated. Frequency of treatments can vary from once a week to once every 3-4 weeks to achieve the desired result.

For further information about any of our skin treatments, please give our team a call on 0161 327 0969.
